Adam’s first post on Highland Landscapes

History of Art in The Scottish Highlands

The artistic depiction of landscapes in the Highlands of Scotland has been extremely popular for centuries.  Through the ages, pencil, ink, watercolour, oil paints, synthetic paints, and most recently mixed media have each had their era.

Similarly, there have been trends and fads, arising and passing every few decades, regarding particular geographical regions of the Scottish Highlands being chosen as the subject thought most deserving of the attention of the bigwigs in the world of art.

Most of all, politics, social attitudes and customs of the time, of any particular time in the last 500 years, have been the source of the most significant influence on the art then produced.

It was a glorious day, not a cloud in the sky, with wonderful views of the snow-capped peaks of the Scottish Highlands all around.
